Imagine being a butterfly, fluttering through Thunder Bay on a warm summer afternoon, searching for that perfect place to rest your wings. Somewhere with colourful flowers, a little shelter from the wind, and plenty of nectar to keep you going. And then, there it is. The Adelaide Butterfly Garden.
To us, it might look like a lovely little garden tucked away in our community. But to a butterfly, a bee, or any number of tiny pollinators, it's so much more. It's a place to find food, seek shelter, and help bring the next generation of butterflies into the world. But even the most beautiful gardens need a little love.
As the seasons change, weeds creep in, debris collects, and the plants that make these spaces so special need some attention. Without a little help from their human neighbours, these important habitats can slowly lose what makes them so valuable. And that's where you come in!
On Tuesday, October 20, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Tbay ReACT is inviting volunteers to join for a little garden TLC at the Adelaide Butterfly Garden. They'll be helping clean up and maintain this special space, ensuring it remains a welcoming home for butterflies and other pollinators when the warmer weather returns. It's also part of a larger effort to support Thunder Bay's developing Butterfly Corridor, connecting and protecting habitats throughout our community.
You don't need to be an expert gardener. Just bring a willingness to lend a hand, enjoy some fresh air, and do something meaningful for the environment.
